Govern a society

Read this letter.

My view
It is the duty of the Government to govern. They cannot let the problem of society be "left to the market" or to "personal responsibility". This is why laws are passed to prevent vandalism and crime. If marketing flyers are a nuisance, it should be stopped. If gambling on credit is a serious problem, it should also be stopped. It is easy for people to fall into a trap and lose a fortune that will bankrupt their family - all within a day or just a few hours.

For those people who say that people should be personally responsible and that the Government has no role here, just wait for the day when a member of your family comes home, and cries that he or she owes $100,000 or more to the casino. You will then know the real danger of gambling on credit and how easy it is for anyone to fall into the trap.

if the gahmen leaves problems of society to "personal responsibilities", then the gahmen should also not be punishing the people for crimes and offences. There should also not be NS bcos it is everyone's personal responsibility to protect themselves and their properties. Victims of crimes etc should therefore take "personal responsibility" to become vigilantes and take matters into their own hands right?. No need for law and police liao hahahaha!

of cos we know this is not true and cannot be the case, so public servants who cries out "leave it to the market" or "take personal responsibility" are just using them as excuses for their own failure in and incompetence... which incidentally is the state of the public service under the LHL regime lol

Yes, if the government wants us to be responsible for all & sundry, why have one ? There are certain area in society that since the Greek or Chinese Dynasties had been the 'rulers' responsibilities. We can change along the way, but of late Singapore Authorities have 'sickening' habit of passing-the-buck. They should learn that a leader will stand up & tell those around that 'the buck stops here ' when issues are not being addresssed.
