Dr. Susan Lim's bills

Someone sent a letter showing reports in The Brunei Times about Dr. Susan Lim's bills. It has placed Singapore in a bad light and might sour relations with Brunei. Read SGEP - Latest or click here.

I get the nasty feeling that the government acts only because of the complaint by the Brunei High Commission. This will be quite bad. We should act out of a sense of right and wrong.

waste of public funds, since Brunei is capable of suing the doctor, if she cheated.

I feel that the good doctor is guilty of cheating. Her actions clearly demonstrate duplicity. To say otherwise would fly in the face of common sense, unless one argues that the law is beyond common sense. The worse thing is to have five of her compatriots come out and say that what she does is not wrong! So if that is the case, woe betides us when other professions like contractors start marking the bills by their subcontractors. So now, besides politicians, lawyers, journalists, we can add doctors to the list of professions that rank low in the eyes of people.

The Brunei side don't even need to sue her. They can just refuse to pay and let her sue them. It's just in international diplomatic protocol that the Brunei side went to SMC first. In fact, some insider info has it that they went to LKY and then he made SMC act.

I think but cannot confirm that singapore cannot afford to annoy Brunei as long as the oil from Brunei is still flowing since our currency in a way is backed by Brunei dollars which are backed by their oil present.

I believe there are many such cases but many choose to suffer in silence because it takes a lot time and money to bring matter to SMC.Any if are a nobody do you think SMC will act ?

There is no regulation on what a physician's charges should be and its left to reasonable discretion. But who decides what is 'reasonable'. Dr. Lim has done numerous treatments for free for people who couldn't afford it and needed it. Why is that forgotten. She's charging someone who spends hundreds of thousands a day on basic living maybe more. It sounds to me like the SMC and MOHS is making an example out of her. Maybe even a case of corporate witchcraft. Didn't Parkway Health know about the billings? They must have had a piece of the pie!

I think Anthony is right in saying that Dr Susan Lim has not chosen to suffer in silence. Renga's point is also correct. The doctor is charging only agreed upon fees. If the fees were too high, the patient could have changed her doctor.

Mr Surgeon, I think when Anthony mentioned 'many choose to suffer in silence', he's refering to those patients and not the doctor. What's there for her to 'suffer' in the 1st place? Maybe she become 'famous' now instead. For Renga saying of her numerous free treatments, well...could be trying to do some good deeds after those sinful deeds. Modern day Robin Hood?

Did Dr Susan Lim receive the money? is it true the Brunei make the complaint or the SMC?
if it true the Brunei make the complaint why they are not here? How true the newspaper write that make you believe? the Only true story will only make when the CJ make his verdict.
