Tan Jee Say's participation in the Presidential Election

Here is my statement.

I like to wish Tan Jee Say all the best in getting the Certificate of Eligibility and in contesting the Presidential Election. With more candidates entering the contest, the voters of Singapore will have a wider choice of selecting the next President of Singapore. A larger pool of candidates should help to make more citizens aware of the importance of this position and educate more people on the need to make a wise
choice.

I will not change my campaign, as set out in my campaign website: www.tkl2011.com.

I offer to the voters to serve the country in the following areas:
 Be a voice of the people to carry their views, concerns and aspirations to the Government.
 Be independent of the PAP government but to work with the government to find solutions that are best for the people
 Apply my knowledge and expertise to safeguard their CPF savings and the reserves of Singapore.

I also pledge to donate at least half of the President's salary towards charity and

yujuan said...: We don't know much about Tan Jee Say, except he was for a time, the principal private secretary of GCT.
Hard to believe he had not inheritated a bit of the PAP DNA also.
His behaviour is a bit strange, he started out the secretary for Goh, then left to become CEO of a fund management Company, then abruptly heard of him contesting for GE on a SDP ticket, then just as abruptly resigned from this Political Party, and announces his application for the EP.
Since he has worked for the PAP Govt before, isn't it strange for him to profess he has no association of the PAP and is completely independent.
Also, why all the four candidates are Tans, and why all have at some time associated with the PAP before. Such coincidence is rather
intriguing.
But one thing stands out for Say - he wants to continue the unfinished job of our previous President Ong Teng Cheong (God bless our former President's soul) - about our Reserves and how they were used, and how they could be put to better use in future.

symmetrix said...: I must say that TJS could be another capable candidate, together with TKL. Both are standing on similar platforms.

TJS's main disadvantages compared to TKL are:-

1. Difficulty in getting CoE. His company did not have $100m in paid-up capital. Managing assets greater than $100m is a separate matter altogether. Also, his job title of Regional Managing Director might not please the PEC, though the job is that of a CEO. The PEC can easily disqualify him if it so wishes.

2. No contribution to charity.

TJS has one advantage though. Being a past PPS to the PM must have given him a lot of insight into the inner workings of the cabinet and govt. He would know how to maneuver through the govt maze to get things done for the citizens.; July 15, 2011 10:45 PM

I notice that the amount paid is to much and is it vote buying.

Is vote buying allow in Singapore election systems? Why is that Mr Tan Kin Lian did not speak up during that time? Else you may not lost his deposit. Can you appeal now?; August 30, 2011 5:52 PM
