Submitting the nomination papers

The Straits Times gave a sub-headline that I was considering to withdraw from the Presidential election. This is misleading and inaccurate and does not reflect my answers given to the media conference or posted in my blog. Channel News Asia has given an accurate report, which is stated here.

My supporters and I went on a walkabout at Ghim Moh market this morning. I was heartened by the warm reception of the residents and stall holders. Most of them recognized me and assured me of their support. Some, who have read the Sunday Times report, urged me to continue in the contest.

I wish to confirm that I will be submitting my nomination papers on 17 August.

Mr Tan K.L.,

You have my moral support for the election. Several years ago, you helped my father in a minor matter that had been delaying him for a few months, bypassing the red tape imposed by NTUC to arrive at a solution within 3 days. Even though your powers as a President will be limited in the event of your winning the election, I believe you have the correct attitude we need right now. I await the outcome of the various electoral campaigns. Best wishes to you.

I think Mr Tan Kin Lian is best suited to be President as he understand the ground and he knows how financial sectors works especially thoses corporate earners at the expense of the mass. He is a commoner not like Tony who was born rich and do not understand the ground and strongly attached to the present government and due to its connection its really difficult for Tony to do a good job. As we all know the bankers controls the world now and we need someone who knows how to play the game with them. They easily makes millions at their wills ands the layman works like a slave. I feel Mr Tan Kin Lian knows the predicament we the layman going through.
I'm for Tan Kin Lian as President.
All the best as the media is trying to makes things difficult for you. like Mr Mudock the nuts that controls the whole world media.
A simple Singaporean

TKL offers to donate at least 50% of his Presidential salary, if elected because he do not think that public office’s holders should receive millions dollars of salary. He wants to set an example for other leaders to follow.

Dear Mr Tan
In every sense of the word, I believe you are the "best qualified" presidential candidate.

Best qualified to represent the hopes and aspirations of Singaporeans as promised in our National Pledge.

Mr Tan, I really hope that you can seriously consider withdrawing.. although I will vote for you, I don't think you will win because votes will be splited between yourself and Tan Jee Say (many I spoke to said they will vote for Jee Say). WIth both of you contesting, I think TT will become the winner, I believe this is what many Singaporean (who want a real People's President) do not want to see. Give it some thought, for the sake of Singaporean, between yourself and Jee Say, one must quit, else, both will be losers.

I suggest that you ask your friends to vote based on what have TKL and TJS done in the past years.

Who has voiced his concerns on issues affecting ordinary people in the past years?

Who is more concern about the well-being of the ordinary people?

Based on the above criteria, we should vote for TKL.

Your friends may not aware that TKL is not an active PAP member for more than 25 years (since 1985) because he was unhappy with the direction of the party policy on the graduate mother scheme, the unfair burden of national service on male citizens and on the HDB policy.

He continued as an inactive cadre member of the PAP until his retirement from NTUC Income in 2007. He resigned from the party shortly afterwards.

He did not want to quit earlier as it was necessary for him to preserve good relations with the ministers and the NTUC leaders, for the sake of NTUC Income.

Over the years, he has written many letters to the media on issues affecting the people of Singapore, such as national service, public transport and housing.

I believe that we can count on him to be independent of PAP government.
