Many analysts recommends Phone service Companies as one of the better bets in a portfolio during an economic downturn, but they are vulnerable to another kind of threat, technology innovations, that make phone calls obsolete.
Sometimes the better bet would be the phone makers. Microsoft is keeping tabs on Nokia, the phone-maker, the giant is just bidding its time to buy the latter at a cheaper price, it's an organic vertical expansion for Microsoft, marrying Nokia with its IT power.
No use for M to buy into Yahoo, M needs a phone company to protect its leadership in the IT business.
