New ticket for train rides

I am puzzled at this announcement
http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC120726-0000027/A-better-standard-ticket

Will it replace the existing fare card? Is the user required to change the fare card after every six rides? What about passengers with concession cards, such as seniors or students?

This is to replace the existing green colour one-time fare card.

Not our CEPAS fare card.

They changed to a cheaper card, probably mifare ultralight which is much cheaper compared to green colour card.

That is why only 10Cent deposit

Thank you for clarifying the issue.

Our planners and communication experts should come to the ground and learn that there are many cards, and not everyone is knowledgeable about the entire system.

Theytake for granted that every consumer knows the entire system. They forget that they know the entire system because it is their full time job and that consumers at large have to take care of many scores of activities in their daily lives.

When the planners understand this basic issue, they will make things simplier and not add to convoluted systems.

This disease of making thiings concoluted is typical of the culture and system in Singapore due to the ivory towers that have been built for our planners.

Yes all they needed to do is to add that this applies to "use once" ticket and everyone will be cleared that it does not affect 99% of the passengers

Typical productivity Singapore style.
We chase after all the small productivity gains.

And we miss the biggest productivity gain which is at the "big picture" level.

Lousy workers or lousy leadership?

The standards of news reporting is appalling.

Indeed it is complicated. In taiwan there is no deposit in the one way ticket and there is no need to return the ticket to the ticket machine just to get back the deposit.

What has happened to the older system? The old card does not need deposit, the machine collected it back once it had run out of value.

You can just modify the existing software so that you can top up your card as much as you want. Once you are done with your travelling, just go to the machine or counter to collect your remaining value.
