I recall a story told by a Swedish friend. In a speech 20 years ago, he said, "During the dark days of the second world war, Norway was occupied by the German Nazis. Every few days, there was a rumor that the Allies had landed and that Norway would be liberated. It turned out to be another false rumor. After a while, the people became skeptical of these rumors, but felt that it was nice to hear them anyway! "
My Swedish friend gave this speech in response to accolades that were given to him.

Any well known personality at an advanced age that is seriously ill and bed ridden, no matter how well respected and feared, is as good as dead.
And for such a well known personality, this can be easily verified come an important occasion, eg National Day, to see whether he turn up or not.
Hope got the correct hint. Indeed, if rumor turns up true, wonder whether people would cry, be resigned, or ..........
Also hope Singapore would not plunge into chaos, we pray to God Almighty.

I experienced the same reaction years ago in my company. What I said was deliberately misinterpreted and magnified by both union and management ( to distract people from issues at hand).
To the extent that I was "advised" to approach the person to apologise for making the comment.Being young then, I did.
Upon reflection, it was nothing more than a comment with no ill intent but people who have self interests will take advantage and magnify and distort your words.
Ignore them... I understand your post very clearly.. these people are wicked.
Mr Tan, good morning. Yes a lot of rumours, 9 out of 10 heard about it since 8 Aug morning, there could be some truth about it. Maybe do not want to spoil the National Day mood. Lets watch the parade, it will be very sad if it is true.

I hope to see the Singapore personality at the National Day Parade today. It will be quite disappointing and sad, if it does not happen. Wish him continued good health.
